Sharing the love of God with our most precious Our Saviour members - our kids!
By Kerry Baldwin
This week we speak with two of our Children’s Ministry members, Diana Wertz and Crystal Kelley. As teachers for the kindergarten and elementary aged Sunday School classes for Our Saviour Kids, Diana and Crystal share their love of God with the Our Saviour children and learn a little themselves.
Diana has been teaching the kindergarten class a little over a year. What brought her to teaching Sunday School? “I love children and my son at the time was especially young and I was curious about what the next phase held. When there was an opening to teach the kindergarten Sunday School class I thought it would be a great time to get to know the kids at the church and become a little bit more well versed with the kindergarteners.”
And how has Diana been enjoying her weekly time spent with her Sunday School class? “It’s so fun! I am excited for this phase of life and the kids at Our Saviour are very sweet - it’s the highlight of my week!”
Crystal has been a Sunday School teacher for the past three years. The opportunity came to her during a side conversation about her teaching career while at church one day.
Crystal sees the value the kids in her class receive when they are “hearing from the Bible, reading verses and understanding how it connects to everyday life.”
She has two little ones of her own - a 5-year-old in Diana’s class and a 3-year-old who stays in the nursery while Crystal is teaching. For Crystal, this “works out because I can do something while I know my kids are being loved on too.
Crystal receives value too, alongside her class. “I feel that I learn just as much as the kids - every time I write something down on a notecard and bring it home. I love to give back to our church because I feel it has given so much to us.”
The next time you see Diana or Crystal, be sure to give them a big high-five for sharing the love of God with our most precious Our Saviour members - our kids!
