Prime Timers - Linda's Story

Linda Crockford

Linda Crockford, leader of the Prime Timers, has been teaching a Bible study called “Strength for the Journey” for twenty-two years at River Garden - a Hebrew home for the aged with both Jewish and Christian residents. The class is co-hosted by Richard Dykes and is joined by about ten residents at any given session, a third of whom are Jewish.

The class is geared towards helping residents recognize new purposes in their days. “As long as there is health, there is purpose.” They focus on “finding joys during the day when the nights can be rough.” The class has helped many achieve the peace and courage they need.

There are several residents who have converted to Christianity (Messianic Jews) through participation in the Bible study program. Linda recalls one resident who was 101 years old and experiencing macular degeneration. She had wanted to die but, through the class, found a greater purpose in encouraging others.

Another resident who, due to her experience in the Holocaust, was angry with God until she finally met Jesus through the work of members of Our Saviour. For many residents, it’s these visits of fellowship and connection that make all the difference.

Along with the Bible study, Linda’s husband, John, hosts a monthly “secular with a religious twist” trivia, further engaging and entertaining the residents.

There are plenty of other opportunities to support the residents at River Garden. “We can always use volunteers for friendly visits for those who don’t have friends or family nearby.” The residents also love to do craft activities - another opportunity for someone who might want to lead a fun session.

Along with their ministry at River Garden, the Prime Timers have an affinity for St. Mary’s Food Pantry. This spring, they led a food drive and next up is collecting supplies for twenty-four student backpacks for kids of St. Mary’s clients.

Amazing efforts, Prime Timers, showing such love while spreading the Word of God to our community!
